Saturn Power is developing this Regulation Services energy storage project under contract with Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). This Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is located in Owen Sound, Ontario, and will have a capacity of 25MW and the ability to discharge 50MWh.
Regulation Services Support is required to help ensure the reliability of Ontario’s grid system. Regulation Services act to balance total system generation with total system load on a minute-by-minute and second-by-second basis. It helps to correct variations in power system frequency and corrects for short-term changes in electricity use which might affect the stability of the power grid. A BESS is one of the most effective means of providing this necessary support.
This project will connect to a nearby existing Hydro One substation and will be completed in late 2018.
