Saturn Power is proud to announce the official start of operations for our two projects in Oregon! Our Tumbleweed Solar Project and Chiloquin Solar Project each have a capacity of 9.9MW AC, and each span over 70 acres in Redmond and Chiloquin, respectively. These projects were developed from concept to construction by the Saturn Power team and each has a long-term power purchase agreement with PacifiCorp. Both projects were led by Mike Brugge, our Director of Engineering.
The projects utilize Solar Flex Rack fixed tilt racking systems with Seraphim 320-325W polycrystalline modules and Sungrow 60kW string inverters. For each project, the arrays provide over 14 MW of available DC power through a 9.9MW AC rated system.
Saturn had some incredible financing partners throughout the project that were able to assess the risk of different stages of construction and appropriately match funding to ensure successful project delivery. Additionally, Saturn's local construction partners were able to scale to meet the project needs while ensuring that the majority of construction work stayed with the local community. During construction, Saturn Power overcame some new and unique challenges. Drilling into the volcanic rock outcrops proved difficult initially, however using the compression-fit piling solution allowed us to successfully establish consistent pile drilling. Delivery issues in the Black Friday and holiday season also occurred but were caught early thanks to keeping close watch on shipments and maintaining open communication lines with our vendors.
Saturn is proud to have made investments in these communities and is grateful to have led these projects to a successful completion.
Altogether, these successful Oregon sites are a testament to the tenacity and technical acumen of our in-house Engineering Team and excellent subcontractors. We are thrilled to see the continued growth of Oregon’s renewable energy sector, and have enjoyed being a part of their progress.
