Tatkoy, Turkey: Early last month, the Tatkoy Solar project achieved full commercial operation of the 5-megawatt solar farm.
The project was designed and developed by Saturn Power, with its EPC contractor Arke Solar. Tatkoy is expected to deliver more than 7900 megawatt hours (MWh) of clean energy to the country’s grid annually.
“Tatkoy was a very unique solar project to construct, as it is located 1700m above sea level” said Ahmete Oztepe, Turkey Project Manager “The nearest grid at this altitude is 6km from the project site”.
The abundance of solar generation potential in Turkey offers significant opportunities to the economy. However, Turkey has yet to tap the majority of that potential to date as solar only meets 1% of their energy demand.
“Achieving our first international utility scale project is an important milestone for Saturn Power” said Jeremy Goertz, Saturn Power Vice President of Business Development “Turkey has well prepared us for future opportunities and will support our current international pipeline of more than 100 MW.”
Currently Saturn Power is developing two additional projects in Turkey, which will increase Saturn Power’s Turkish portfolio to 10 MW of solar energy. Both projects are set to achieve operation before the end of the year.
